FAQs: Applying to Summer Quest

How do I apply?

Application instructions can be found here.  The 2010 application will be available soon.

How important is the essay?

The essay is a required part of the application process. It reveals students' organizational, writing and critical-thinking skills, all of which are vital to our programs.

How important is the interview?

The interview is a required part of the application process. It is very important because it gives us an opportunity to meet the student and discuss his/her interests.

When will I find out if I am accepted?

Acceptance letters will go out on February 1.

Applying to an external program

Why can't I just apply to summer programs on my own?

Students who want to qualify for the CPS scholarship must apply to Summer Quest. The Summer Quest staff will also ensure that students apply to the programs that best fit their skills and interests.

How many programs do I apply for?

All students should apply for two programs. However, you will only attend one, even if you are accepted to both.

Do I have to apply for financial aid from the program?

Yes. You must apply for financial aid from the program itself in order to receive additional financial aid from Summer Quest.

What if I can't find the financial aid/scholarship application?

It is sometimes necessary to contact the program and request one.

Am I guaranteed acceptance to the programs?

No. Summer Quest staff members collaborate with counselors, students, and parents to help students make realistic program choices. However, the programs make their own admission decisions.

Do I have to pay an application fee?

No. Do not give a program any money unless instructed by Summer Quest to do so.

Do I send the application to the program, or to Summer Quest?

Send the completed application to the Summer Quest, but be sure to make copies for yourself.

What if the program only has an online application?

You may submit the application online, as long as the application does not require you to provide a credit card number. Print two copies of the application- one for your own records, and one to send to Summer Quest. (If the application DOES require credit card information, please contact the Summer Quest office for specific instructions.)

What if I haven't heard back from a program?

We really can't say for sure. Some programs may take a month or longer to evaluate applications, so do not panic if you haven't heard back from them as quickly as you had hoped.

What if I was accepted to a program, but didn't receive enough (or any) financial aid?

You may still be able to attend the program. Send copies of your acceptance letter and financial aid package to the Summer Quest office. We will see if we can provide funding.

May I apply to a program that isn't listed on the website?

Maybe. If you find another program that interests you, contact the Summer Quest office, and we will let you know if we think it is an appropriate choice.
