General FAQs

What is Summer Quest?

Summer Quest provides scholarship stipends to students who have been accepted to one of several quality pre-college summer programs.  Summer Quest can only provide scholarship money for pre-approved programs, and students must qualify for free or reduced lunch in order to receive Summer Quest funds.

How much will it cost my family?

Costs vary from program to program.  Summer Quest will provide stipends ranging from $500 to $1,000 for pre-approved programs in 2011.  Students are also HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to apply for financial aid directly from programs using their financial aid procedures.  Additional individual fundraising is also an effective way of defraying the cost of summer programs.  See the Financial Aid & Fees section of the website for more information.

What if I don't receive free or reduced lunch?

Scholarships will be awarded based on need and availability, but due to CPS budget cuts, scholarships are unlikely to be awarded to students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch.

What kinds of programs can I attend?

See the list of programs here. There are three types of summer programs: academic programs, art and music programs, and outdoor leadership programs.

Why are multiple applications necessary?

Students are responsible for applying to one of the Summer Quest pre-approved programs on their own.  If accepted to one or more programs, students can complete a Summer Quest scholarship application (application period runs now through May 1, 2011).
